Murmurations

A tool for making idents for Now Play This 2024.

This year’s logo is a tribute to the 10th year of Now Play This. If you take a closer look, you will discover symbols representing each previous year gathering together to create the larger form. The logo takes inspiration from the murmurations of starlings and might also resemble a fingerprint. It feels ethereal and at the same time present and powerful.

The logo follows a generative approach that allows the image to be reshaped over and over again, changing and playing in a constant flow the same way a flock of birds does in the air, or a person does throughout their life. This year's logo echoes Now Play This spirit of experimentation and playfulness and invites its audience to play along to make their own version.
